Making a TV commercial has always been a big project. First sketches of every scene, then a character design, then animators or a 3D studio to bring the character to life, and finally a voice actor in a recording studio. Every step takes weeks and needs its own specialist.
The question
Overstappen.nl asked a simple but exciting question: can a broadcast quality commercial be made entirely with AI? So without anyone animating by hand and without complicated 3D work.
First, a character that fits the brand
A commercial stands or falls with its character. So it did not start with video, it started with the brand. First came sketches of every scene, then the design of a character for Overstappen.nl: a friendly frog that sits, looks, talks and jumps.
A frog is no accident. Switching providers is about making the jump to something better, and that image says it in one go.
Everything from one way of working
With the frog in place, every part of the commercial was made with AI, always based on the same character and the same style:
- Images: the frog in a recognisable living room, on the sofa, in the light and colours of the brand.
- Video: smooth movement, from a wink to a jump across the screen.
- Audio: a studio quality voice, without a recording day.
Because everything comes from the same way of working, the frog stays the same frog in every scene. That is the whole point of a character: people should recognise it straight away.
The result
A TV commercial that is ready for broadcast and made entirely with AI. No hand drawn animation, no 3D studio, no recording day. And the quality is good enough that nobody can tell.
What you can take from this
The gain is not just in that one commercial. The character now exists, and every next video, image and spoken line can be made from the same frog. Where a new scene used to be a new project, it is now a question you ask.
